| A man has been arrested for allegedly beating his 5-year-old daughter to death Monday in Gongming Subdistrict. Huang Chun, a native of Mao-ming, Guangdong Province, was being held coaxial cable by police for investigation. Huang told police that he had beaten his daughter, Dandan, because she hadn’t squatted to urinate and hadn’t gone to bed on time, Chinese-language newspapers reported Thursday. According to socket connector Dandan’s mother, Ye Liangmei, who was quoted by the Daily Sunshine yesterday, Huang had used a meter-long bamboo stick to beat the girl Monday night. The girl was badly bruised and slept in the corner of the room that night. The parents weren’t able to wake her in the morning, Ye said. Doctors of Gongming People’s Hospital said Dandan might have died early Tuesday morning. The hospital reported the death to police after doctors saw the suspicious bruises on her body, and Huang wasn’t able to explain them. Dandan, one of two daughters in the family, had just moved to Shenzhen to stay with her parents two months ago. She had been raised by her grandparents in Maoming, Ye said. Neighbors said Dandan was often physically abused during the past two months. Ye, however, denied that her husband beat Dandan often. She said it only happened a few times when Dandan had misbehaved, just like a boy, climbing up into a window and often coming home late. Wu Zhurong, a police officer of Dongzhou Police Station, which oversees the neighborhood, said they were awaiting an autopsy report. |
